Frederick Project 2

Deck Transformation

A Complete Deck Restoration by Quality Deck

For this Frederick, MD project, we were called in to completely replace and upgrade an aging deck that had seen better days. The original structure showed signs of weather damage, rot, and outdated materials that no longer provided a safe or attractive outdoor space.

The Challenge

The original deck was structurally sound but showed heavy signs of age. Railings were worn and peeling, the stairs were unstable in places, and the lattice beneath had lost its sharp look. The flooring was especially faded, making the entire space feel tired. While the homeowners still loved using their deck, it was overdue for an upgrade in both safety and style.

The Challenge

When we arrived, the deck was in serious need of attention. The support beams showed signs of splitting and weather damage, while rusted fasteners and worn wood made the structure unsafe. The stairs were unstable, and years of exposure had weakened the entire framework. This wasn’t just about curb appeal — it was about restoring safety and functionality for the family.

Before

As you can see from the before photos, the framing and surface boards were deteriorating. The stairs needed to be rebuilt from scratch, and the railings were far from meeting today’s standards for safety and durability.

The Results

We approached this rebuild with precision:

  • Structural Overhaul – Removed damaged beams, replaced compromised lumber, and reinforced the support system.

  • Rebuilt Staircase – The unsafe stairs were completely rebuilt with new stringers, framing, and reinforced risers to ensure stability for years to come.

  • Moisture Protection – Applied protective treatments and flashing to prevent future water damage where wood connects with fasteners and framing.

  • Future-Ready Design – Prepared the deck structure for composite decking and modern railing systems, ensuring it will look as great as it performs.
